Best season to adopt a pet

Adopting a pet is a matter of finding the right pet in the right place at the right time. Some pets do not travel well in extreme cold or heat. Some pets are especially bothered by holiday stress.

For cats and dogs

If you want to have a lot of kitten to choose from, plan to adopt in the springtime. More litters are available in the spring and early fall than in the frigid months.

Because you would like to bring home your kitten or puppy into a happy home, wait until after the holidays to adopt. The worst time to adopt any cat or dog is during a major holiday, which means that kitten and puppies make terrible Christmas gifts. Everyone is too rushed during the holidays. Kitten and puppies need time to adjust to a new home and they need enough attention from you to learn the fundamentals of house-training.

Avoid bringing home a new kitten or puppy in the dead of the winter. No one, pet or owner, wants to go outside when the windchill is 30 below.
